“Neither Kebab nor burgers.” As soon as you see the wording, and look at the illustrations, you know what’s coming. A Frenchman is most happy with his indigenous cuisine, a ham and butter sandwich. Note the inevitable baguette, and the trademark beret on top of the white guy’s head. Everything screams ‘France’. If you vote National Front, that is.
In the context of contemporary anti-Muslim and anti-Jewish xenophobia, the inclusion of the anti-American moment – bagging on mighty Mickey D’s – is refreshing. If only because of how it reminds us how anxious French conservatives are about the so-called integrity of French culture. Everything not “French” is bad. Not just local Semites, but Uncle Sam, too.

I think the French may have issues avoiding hamburgers when the country represents the biggest market for McDonald’s outside the US.
